Bürstenhaus Redecker - The Story Behind The Brand

Redecker hand made brushes and eco friendly cleaning products

Bürstenhaus Redecker

The Redecker company is based in Germany and is a tried and true example of expert craftsmanship. The company first started back in 1935 by Friedrich Redecker, an independent brush maker and has since grown into a well known trusted brand with a forefront focus on practicality and ecology.

"Founder Friedel Redecker earned his living as a brush maker because he went blind as a child. His inventiveness, his sense of quality and persistence brought about a company that is selling its natural products world-wide after three generations."

This company was named by their family name 'Redecker' and this is an important part of what makes them so special. This isn't just a business, this business is a family. Past down through generations for over 80 years.

The mission of Redecker is to handcraft products that are beautiful and practical. Each product needs to have a function which is one of the reasons I fell in love with their products. As a minimalist I love to surround myself with high quality items that have meaning and purpose in my home and that can also be used year after year.

All Redecker products are made using natural, renewable resources which are all selected by the family. After they design and create new products that follow their philosophy they also test the products themselves with the help of their many employees.

"We firmly believe that quality and sustainability always prove themselves and that this must, and eventually will, become more and more important in our “throwaway society.”

Each item the their catalog is carefully considered. They have a three step process.

Step one - the idea - the ideas for new products come from family members, friends, employees and even customers.

Step two - the design - After a prototype is created from the originating idea the team then thoroughly inspects and tests the products. They give their insights of what's good and what can be improved. Sometimes after this process the idea gets thrown out and sometimes its tweaked multiple times before they make it to the next step.

Step 3 - the catalog - at the last part of their carefully thought out process they start ordering materials to create the new product and they start designing packaging. Afterwards the product goes to their photographer to be listed in the catalog. The 3 step process can take up to 6 months sometimes.

I highly value this brand and their story. I love the simplicity and minimalistic look of their handcrafted products. For me Redecker items are timeless. They can make you travel back in time to when things were just a little bit simpler and this is why the Redecker collection was and forever will be a must have for The Green Way.
